Denise Anderson is the senior portfolio coordinator for the graphic design program at the Robert Busch School of Design (RBSD), where she teaches courses related to graphic design, branding, and identity design. Denise joined the faculty of the RBSD as a full-time professor in 2013, after teaching as an adjunct instructor in the department for fifteen years.
A seasoned graphic designer, brand strategist, entrepreneur, and founder of the award-winning creative firm DesignDMA, Denise brings to the classroom more than two decades of experience creating branding strategies and corporate identities for global financial services firms and a variety of start-up companies. Prior to establishing DesignDMA, Denise served as the Director of Marketing Services at Pershing, a BNY Mellon company.
In addition to teaching full time, Denise spent last year writing and designing a book that was published by Peachpit Press in January 2016. Stand Out: Design a Personal Brand, Build a Killer Portfolio, and Find a Great Design Job provides a contemporary, step-by-step approach to graphic design portfolio building that students and job seekers in related professions can use to launch a career in the field of design. Her paper, Graphic Design and Entrepreneurialism: The Rise of the Design Entrepreneur, was published in an international peer-reviewed journal, Diseño y Creatividad, for King Juan Carlos University in Madrid, Spain, in 2014. She has also authored numerous articles for a variety of print and online publications that explore how design and creativity promote strategic value within organizations.
In May 2016, Denise chaired the Design Education Summit, a national conference conducted annually by the University & College Designers Association (UCDA) at Kean University, an organization of graphic design educators that provides opportunities for professional participation and development. She served as President of the Art Directors Club of New Jersey (ADCNJ) from 1998-2000, and has served 12 terms as a member of the Club’s Board, most recently in 2016. Denise is also a participating member of the American Institute of Graphic Artists (AIGA), Art Director’s Club (ADC) and the Design Management Institute (DMI).
Denise holds a B.F.A. in Visual Communications from Kean University, and a M.P.S. in Design Management from Pratt Institute where she studied methodologies and processes for bridging the disciplines of design and business management.
